How to make your own Bee’s Knees

How to make your own Bee’s Knees

How to make your own Bee’s Knees cocktail in the comforts of your own home? The Bee’s Knees is an awesome way to enjoy a cocktail without clouding it with a bunch of sugary syrups. It has the sweetness of honey, the tartness of lemon and a refreshing finish. The light ingredients in this cocktail are what makes it dangerously easy to sip away! It only has 3 ingredients, certainly, making this an easy cocktail to shake up! My Out of This World Corn Dip Out of This World Corn Dip also makes this cocktail disappear quickly!

Vodka or Gin your choice

The best news is one can make their own variation of a Bee’s Knees. While I use Titos Vodka, Belvedere, Grey Goose are great as well! Although if Gin is more to your liking; a dry Gin is preferred. Saphire, Hendericks, and of course Ryan Reynolds’s Aviation Gin work well with this drink as well! Vodka or Gin the choice is yours! Also, if lemon juice is too sour tasting for you, substitute the lemon juice with orange juice.

Where the name Bee’s Knees got its name

The name Bee’s Knees is said to have come from the 1920’s slang term “bee’s knees”. Which was used to deem something outstanding or excellent! That slang term perfectly describes this cocktail! I first tried a Bees Knee’s at Oklahoma State, while visiting my son. Oklahoma State has a wonderful Georgian Boutique hotel right on campus, called The Atherton. https://www.athertonhotelatosu.com Additionally, the hotel has an amazing bar. The cocktail menu is full of wonderful drinks. The refreshing taste of this cocktail, in a chilled martini glass, was the best way to get our visit started!

Equipment needed and where to get it

Any good host should have these items in their arsenal. It makes creating cocktails easier and fun! I love a glass, long stem martini glass. One can find them almost anywhere, but I found some beautiful ones on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Tall-Martini-Glasses-Pack-10oz/dp/B09SK4V6TQ/lThey are glass, with a tall stem, making them easy to hold onto. Plus, they are dishwasher safe! Another must have, is the Elevated Craft Hybrid Shaker. https://elevatedcraft.com/ This shaker is insulated, so no more water stains all over. It has built in measuring cup for a perfect pour. The best feature, to me, is the screw top! No more frozen together lids or ruined manicures trying to pull the lid off. This shaker is a bit of a splurge…but so worth it!
